Greenwich

Here are some of my favourite things Greenwich has on offer:

  • Royal Observatory - Designed by Christopher Wren and the scientist Robert Hooke, it was observations made here that made it the home of time and longitude.
  • Prime Meridian - Located within the observatory is the Prime Meridian, where longitude is 0º. A man made designation used by all to measure your location on the earth vertically.
  • Queen's House - The Queen's House designed by Inigo Jones was the first Palladian building in England.
  • National Maritime Museum - A wonderful museum with an extensive collection featuring maritime and navigational history.
  • Old Royal Navy College - The building designed by Christopher Wren is an architectural masterpiece in and of itself, but inside you simply cannot miss the epically baroque Painted Hall.
  • Greenwich Market - A lovely market with delicious food and local artisans selling their wares. The perfect place to pick up some lunch for a picnic in the park.
  • The Fan Museum - A quirky museum dedicated to the history and making of fans. They also have a charming Orangerie serving tea and cakes.
  • Ranger's House - An English Heritage site housing a beautiful art collection including a Botticelli.
