London South Bank

London South Bank

Do you have a favourite walk? I love pretty much any walk along water. The Thames South Bank is my go to walk when we have friends or family visiting. This lovely walk takes you past a majority of famous London landmarks and gives you stunning views of the city. There is also lots of good food to eat along the way. Here is how I’d spend a morning walking along the South Bank:Start the morning with breakfast in Borough Market. This market is a favourite with tourists and locals alike. You are literally spoilt for choice for what to eat. I would recommend getting some baked goods at Bread Ahead, a fresh juice or hot chocolate depending on the weather, and some treats and bread for later. While you are munching on your pan au chocolat or breakfast doughnut start walking towards The Tate Modern. Take note, as you will walk past The Globe Theatre and be sure to say something clever about the Shakespeare play you read in secondary school or comment on the time you played the Wall in A Midsummer Night's Dream. The Tate Modern is a modern art lover’s dream. Enjoy walking through the exhibits and be sure to check out the lovely views of St. Paul’s and Millennium Bridge. Remember the time Death Eaters destroyed the bridge in Harry Potter! As you keep walking along the south bank you will come to the National Theatre. I love their gift shop and bookstore here and would recommend having a browse. After limiting yourself to just a few books, keep walking towards the London Eye and The Palace of Westminster. I would then cross Embankment Bridge and take in the lovely views of London. If you cross on the east side you have views of Tower Bridge and if you cross on the west side you have views of parliament. The choice is yours!Once you are on the north side of the Thames, walk a few minutes up to Trafalgar Square. You can pop into the National Gallery for some more amazing art and a nice coffee break in their cafe that boasts both lovely food and views. And that is your morning and maybe a bit of your afternoon spent!
