The Lake District

The Lake District

The Lake District is full of stunning scenery. From lakes and forests to fells and beaches, it has been a favourite spot of poets and writers alike and was made an UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017.

For the outdoor enthusiast there is walking, biking, wild swimming, paddle-boarding, boating and more. For the history buff there are castles, stately homes, stone circles, and roman ruins.

Here are some recommendations of historic things to see in the Lakes:

Lowther Castle- The ruins of a medieval castle with beautiful gardens.Sizergh Castle - With parts dating back to the 14th century and lovely gardens

.

Muncaster Castle- A 13th century castle with a Hawk and Owl center and extensive gardens.

Castlerigg Stone Circle- A late neolithic stone circle surrounded by beautiful scenery.

Hill Top Farm- The hope of beloved author and illustrator Beatrix Potter. There is also The World of Beatrix Potter.

Levens Hall- Beautiful house and gardens boasting the UK’s oldest topiaries.

There is also an abundance enchanting towns and villages scatter throughout the Lakes. Some of the most charming are

Pooley Bridge, Coniston Village, Dent, Grasmere, Ambleside, Kendal, Bowness-on-Windermere, Keswick, Seatoller, Ravenglass, and Cartmel.

Accommodation wise there is everything from camping to luxury hotels. Next time we visit I am eyeing to stay at Another Place Hotel. It looks just perfect for a family holiday and if we are there over a full moon I definitely want to a full moon night swim.

And for food, take your pick from top restaurants for special occasions, artisan bakeries, charming cafes, and cozy pubs. Some places that I’d love to try are The Cottage in the Woods, Chesters, and Lovingly Artisan.

And don’t forget to try the classics that call this region home such as, sticky toffee pudding, Grasmere gingerbread, Cumberland sausage, and dampson cheese.

Whether you are looking for a relaxing getaway, or wanting to climb Scafell Pike the Lake District is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Don’t forget to pack your wellies!
